Canada Passport Photo Sizes: Online (1200×1800) vs Print (50×70 mm)

IRCC accepts passport photos in two distinct formats, and mixing them up is one of the most common reasons photos get rejected.

Print format — 50 × 70 mm

The classic paper format used by photographers: 50 mm wide, 70 mm tall, head height about 35 mm with the eye line 39 mm from the bottom. Our tool renders this at 600 DPI so it stays razor sharp when printed.

Digital format — 1200 × 1800 px

For online applications the photo is specified in pixels: 1200 × 1800, with the head occupying about 48% of the frame height and the eye line at 55% from the bottom.

Background

Plain white. Canada explicitly does not accept photos with shadows, gradients or objects in the background — another reason automatic background removal pays off.

Open the studio, choose Canada and you will see all three Canadian specs (visa, print passport, online passport) ready to generate.
